HoloNet offers a variety of services to customize your Internet access to best meet your communication needs.
Your Holonet member account is the anchor around which all other
HoloNet services are based. You can customize your account by adding
services such as:
What is Included with a HoloNet Account?
Basic service enables terminal or
telnet access to HoloNet's easy-to-use, menu-driven system and includes the following features:
- Internet E-Mail
Send electronic mail millions of individuals, companies and organizations
around the world! Internet E-Mail is extremely easy to use and mail is
usually delivered within minutes.
Each account includes an e-mail address similar to "membername@holonet.net" and a mailbox accessible by POP, IMAP, or our NEW Web Mail system!.
- USENET News
USENET News is the name given to the news conferencing system on the
Internet. People can post and read messages on specific topics through
newsgroups. Topics range from bungee jumping, to politics, to the
latest craze in multi-media.
Currently there are over 200GB of messages transferred daily in over 50,000
unique newsgroups on USENET. HoloNet offers three different news readers:
TIN, RN, and NN. HoloNet defaults to TIN a simple and easy to use newsreader.
- Telnet and FTP
With Telnet, users can remotely log in to other computers on the
Internet and use that computer's services. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows
users to download files on the Internet to their local computer. For example,
using FTP users can get the latest versions of many software packages in just
minutes or through Telnet users can connect to libraries all over the world
easily and efficiently.
- WWW (World Wide Web)
Access hypertext documents on the Web without a PPP connection using Lynx, a
text-based browser.
- Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
With IRC users can chat in real time with other people on the Internet.
Users type their message online so others can read the message on their
screen in real time.
- Internet Utilities
Utilities such as finger, host, nslookup, ping, traceroute, and whois
are available.
- Archie & Gopher
Archie allows users to find public files on Internet FTP sites. Gopher is
a menu driven system that allows users to search for information by title
and then download that information to their computer.
