E-Mail Instructions
Internet e-mail service is included with your HoloNet member account.
Your e-mail address is in the form of "membername@holonet.net".
Important messages such as monthly billing statements and administrative messages regarding your account are sent to your member mailbox, so be sure to check your HoloNet mail regularly or set up e-mail forwarding.
If you are a UUCP customer, please note that your HoloNet mailbox is separate from your UUCP mail.
We provide a number of different methods for accessing your incoming mail:
-
Terminal Emulation or Telnet
-
Once logged
in, select [M] Mail from the Main Menu to get to your mailbox.
Elm is the online mail reader. It is useful for checking your mail if your
offline mail reader is having trouble.
You can access documentation on ELM by selecting [F] File Browser
from the Main Menu and then following this path:
/Information/Mail/Documentation.
This method may not be convenient for everyday mail use, but you should
make note of it for times when you have trouble reading your mail through
your usual method.

POP/SMTP
-
If you are connecting to HoloNet using HoloIP service, or if you have internet
access elsewhere, you can access your HoloNet POP mailbox via the Internet by
specifying your HoloNet POP account within your POP mail program.
Some examples of offline mail readers are Claris E-Mailer, Eudora, Outlook
or Netscape. In addition, many of the free, web-based e-mail services can be
configured to pick up mail from external POP servers.
Configuration steps depend on the software used. Here is the basic
information you will need to configure the software:
POP server setting: pop3.holonet.net
SMTP server setting: smtp.holonet.net
Some software requires a POP account name. Use "membername@pop3.holonet.net".
POP server access is billed in one minute increments at the HPA rate.
If you are connected to another service provider for your internet connection,
you should use the SMTP server they have supplied for you on their network
as HoloNet disallows SMTP "relay" connections from outside our network for
non-HoloNet addressees.

Mail Forwarding
-
If it is easier for you to check your mail through an e-mail account you
have through another provider, we can forward your Holonet account mail to
that e-mail address free of charge.
For example, if you are traveling and have an account with a web-based e-mail
service we can forward your mail to that account. You can then check your
mail from any computer that is connected to the Internet.
If you'd like a forward set, just send us an authoritative request providing the e-mail address.
