HoloNet Approved Equipment
Customers must obtain their own router and
CSU/DSU.
Since synchronous communication equipment is sensitive to power fluctuations,
it is also recommened that you obtain a UPS to power your
router and CSU/DSU.
Below is a list of HoloNet approved equipment.

Glossary
- California LATA 1 Service Area
- California LATA 1 is the telephone service area that includes the
northern part of area codes 408 and 831 and all of the 415, 510, 650, 707,
and 925 area codes including Concord, Crescent City, Eureka, Livermore,
Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa and Watsonville.
- CIR - Committed Information Rate
- The average capacity of the link between HoloNet and the remote site.
- CSU/DSU - Channel Switch Unit/Data Switch Unit
- A CSU/DSU connects the router to data line installed by the local
phone company.
- DNS - Domain Name System
- RFC-1033,
RFC-1034,
and RFC-1035
define various aspects of the Internet Domain Name System.
- DSU/CSU - Data Switch Unit/Channel Switch Unit
- Same as a CSU/DSU.
- Frame Relay
- Frame Relay is a fast packet switching technology that allows aggregated
bandwidth amoung several customers. Internet data over Frame Relay must
conform to the
RFC-1490
specification.
- HTML - HyperText Markup Language
- HTML
is a markup language for hypertext which is understood by all WWW clients.
- HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol
- HTTP
allows the transport of
World Wide Web documents
commonly including documents written in HTML.
- NNTP - Network News Transport Protocol
- RFC-977
defines the Internet protocol for transferring and reading USENET news.
- NTP - Network Time Protocol

defines the Internet protocol for synchronizing time of day clocks.
- PR - Port Rate
- The maximum capacity of the link between HoloNet and the remote site.
- Router
- A router transfers data between the link and the local Ethernet.
- SMTP - Simple Mail Transport Protocol
- RFC-821
defines the Internet protocol for transfering e-mail in the Internet mail
format (defined in
RFC-822).
